Being a fan can manifest itself in a multitude of ways—from a beloved concert poster to a revered record collection to the gushing adoration that either leaves one speechless or drives one to hysteria in the presence of the admired. In Fanatic, we reveal the idols that the artists at Creative Growth remain devoted to, often to the point of obsession.
Specifically in the arena of music or sports, the “aura” that surrounds a rock band or a star athlete is one that we have all experienced, whether in adolescence or into adulthood. Like Aurie Ramirez's countless iterations of the band KISS and their Glam rock motif or the re-imagined Giants jerseys by Brian Nakahara, displays of fandom are as personal as they are ever-present. Featuring work by William Scott, Aurie Ramirez, Gerone Spruill, Terri Bowden, John Mullins, and more.
Also on view: Artwork in a range of two- and three-dimensional media from the students of the 2012 Summer Youth Art and Transition Scholarship Program, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year. Check out and collect the visionary work made by high school aged artists with disabilities who have participated in the Creative Growth studio this summer.
